The history of Federal Urdu University goes back to 1949 when it was founded as a college by Maulvi Abdul Haq who is also regarded as Babe-e-Urdu. Later in 2002, the college was upgraded to the status of university and it was formally inaugurated on 13 November, 2002. Currently, there are three campuses of FUUAST; Gulshan-e-Iqbal Science campus and Abdul-Haq Arts campus are functional in Karachi while the engineering discipline is in Islamabad. The foremost mission of the institute is to provide modern education to the society both in English, and Urdu. The university took the initiative with few departments, but now it has expanded to various departments with full fledged faculties of Basic & Applied Sciences along with Engineering, Humanities, Business Management, Economics and law. The teaching Faculty is comprised of 450 members. The university stands among top leading universities in Pakistan and has made a commendable contribution in research and teaching.
Federal Urdu University presently offers admissions in 39 Undergraduate and 31 Postgraduate & doctoral programs. The core commitment is to make all the contemporary knowledge accessible to the citizens of Pakistan so that they may cope up with the ever growing trends of technology and sciences.
